This happened in 1988 where under-powered Vietnamese sailors claimed a shoal in the disputed islands near the Philippines sovereignty. The sailors refused to be intimidated by Chinese military personnel with their fully armed battleship to protect their supposedly claimed island but the Chinese military used their full force against the under-powered Vietnam sailors. It's an overkill reaction by the Chinese navy to the harmless human standing there without weapons and it violates human rights and international laws. Because China is a rogue state in this peaceful loving world, China once more is starting to do this massacre in a Filipino community living peacefully in Pag-asa island for 40 decades. This barbaric Chinese actions is a real threat to all Filipino's, not only to those living in the Kalayaan group of islands but to the whole archipelago. Why would not I be a racist here, that is because those Chinese has superiority complex implanted by their government and they just cannot control their hot tempered corrupt government officials.
It's been 1 year January 11 since Aaron Swartz reportedly committed suicide. Many can't believe to this tragic moment and everyone is blaming the US government for his death. Like many passionate activist around the globe that is being persecuted by their own government because of their ideals that just couldn't fit in the corporate world. What was the cause of his misfortune? “It's sharing information!” 2 counts of wire fraud and 11 counts of Computer fraud and abuse act. What he wants to share was a academic research from MIT it's a private school but it's research funds is largely comes from the US government, so his idea that government funded research should be freely available to all because taxpayers deserves a return of investment.
I don't want to start a hatred here, but I just want to express my observation to this premiere state university that they are projecting right now. Premium tuition rates, expensive than middle class private schools in the Philippines, so many youth needs to force themselves to transfer to other school that their parents can pay. It's sad to know that learning and having a degree costs too much in a public school that government and taxpayer paid for, is this a mission of selfish group who wants to hold and protect their pride and grandiosity over their fellow countrymen? Well, everyone can really study in UP if you show them your “money” and pay for their premium tuition fees same to those exclusive catholic colleges and universities in the Philippines, it's just a name and popularity game that is going on in the education system in the Philippines and it's one of the reason why we can't get out of this corruption infested system.
The world was shocked after National Security Agency (NSA) of United States of America secrets of global mass surveillance was revealed and admittedly doing it without the knowledge of public. Privacy is one of the human rights that is now being abused and exploited, all humans connected to the web are now being suspected as terrorist by the NSA, violating the rights of innocent, those who's not been proven guilty and without evidence. Philippines even make this a law with their Cyber Crime Prevention Act last year but restrained the said law by the Supreme Court and been hold for a definite time. That law will conflict the freedom of speech, surveillance without a warrant, and removing the due process of law which is the most basic human rights.
Knowledge should be free and available to anyone who wants it. It may not be same as the traditional going to school carrying books, notebooks, pens, pencils in your backpack. Edx.org is sharing just like a short-course offered to all for free who has an internet connection and a computer, we have no reason to ignore these kind of opportunity because best things in life are still free. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University is the leading contributor to these kind of revolution of free education by sharing their resources to everyone who uses the technology of this information age.
