Astrolux EC01 review

I bought this flashlight for its user interface called anduril. Anduril is a open source program for flashlight users, it has many options to your led flashlight. Astolux ec01 is one of the best and cheapest anduril flashlight you can buy on the market using 21700 battery. Its led is a xhp50.2 with 3500 lumens output that can make your night bright like a day comes with a tint 65000k cool white.

Build quality is good with extra o-rings to prevent water entering inside the flashllight. This flashlight can be use without the battery, just connect it’s usb port to a cable and a charger but it’s power is not in full power. Anduril’s functions will mot bored you from old use of light on and off. Candle, strobe, party strobe, beacon are some useful function of anduril program.

Recycling ATX power supply

20160127_114432Old computers have hidden powers that might help makers to do some electronics projects, I finally did it after months of fears of it’s dangerous power. I already felt it’s electrifying shock when I touched repair our desktop PC many times. But, I need some energy and save some money from buying power adapters so I can buy things for more electronics kits and modules. Recent ATX power supply gives 500 watts to 600 watts of power, switching power supply with 12 volts, 5 volts, and 3.3 volts, some have -12 volts and -5 volts for older pentium 2 PC.

All wires are color coded and can be mixed with same color so you can have more current ranging from 20 to 40 amps! 5 volts have the highest amps that can be drawn, while 12 volts have the lowest with below 16 amps. Tutorials around the the internet is easy to understand and follow, but be very careful of it’s shock so better do it with care.

Beaglebone Black working wifi dongle

Beaglebone Black

Beaglebone Black wifi dongle

I bought this cheap wifi dongle around $6 here in our local gadget shop all from China. It’s chipset’s driver in Linux is rare but I found out by accident (linux noob) that MT7601 driver is already installed. While trying my new TP-Link TL-WN725N it’s still unusable with Beaglebone Black, so a blessing in disguise that my stupidity needs to spend $12 .

TL-WN725N is hard to use at present because of lack of drivers available for Linux especially in small computers like Beaglebone and Raspberry Pi. It runs in a virtualbox, I tested it with my PCLinuxOS virtual machine and it connects but unstable almost hanging and slow while connecting to a wireless network.

Portable power supply for Raspberry Pi

DFRobot 2aa Booster

DFRobot 2aa Booster

Now that my project for raspberry pi as surveillance system is active, I also need backup power supply if any power interruptions comes. With just 2 AA size battery size the surveillance system can run up to 1 hour and 30 minutes, just like my earlier test of 4 AA size batteries that lasted for 3-4 hours but my earlier test does not have a usb wifi dongle and a usb webcam controlled by motion program for surveillance. It can be upgraded by adding a parallel of AA size batteries which is much cheaper, safer and easily available source of power for our mini computer.

Well, adafruit's minty boost is hard to find locally but there is an alternative to it created by DFRobot. Our friend circuit-help sells it for Pinoy hobbyist, and it's better than to have nothing, the chip used by adafruit is available in RS Philippines website so if you want to build your own you can build it because it's open source and instructions is also available to their website. Now I can bring my Raspberry Pi in my pocket for 1 hour and 30 minutes for surveillance but only after I found a quality webcam to hide whenever I have a mission.. =)

Global mass surveillance violates human rights

Look for NSA malware

Look for NSA malware

The world was shocked after National Security Agency (NSA) of United States of America secrets of global mass surveillance was revealed and admittedly doing it without the knowledge of public. Privacy is one of the human rights that is now being abused and exploited, all humans connected to the web are now being suspected as terrorist by the NSA, violating the rights of innocent, those who's not been proven guilty and without evidence. Philippines even make this a law with their Cyber Crime Prevention Act last year but restrained the said law by the Supreme Court and been hold for a definite time. That law will conflict the freedom of speech, surveillance without a warrant, and removing the due process of law which is the most basic human rights.
